More confirmation I am a "tell it like it is" mom

Alex: Someone called me nasty today! That hurt my feelings.

Laura: I am so sorry to hear they called you a name. What happened?

Alex: mumble mumble

Laura: I can't hear you when you mumble.

Alex: I was picking my nose.

Laura: Well, picking your nose is very nasty.

Why is it so hard to get our boys to understand that nose picking is gross?

It's not just boys...my 6.5 year old girl is having issues with the compulsion to pick her nose because she doesn't like the way the boogers feel when they are in her nose. I keep telling her she will eventually get teased if she does it in school...and I tell her it's NASTY. She still has the compulsion...she truly tries not to and is aware she shouldn't do it but eventually gives in to it. She has had other sensory related compulsions in the past (sock seams, smelling things, etc.) and has attention challenges. I've been chalking it up to that...my pediatrician thinks it's no big deal. I have to fight to keep from getting angry with her for it. The other compulsions eventually passed. Sigh...

OMG we had this same exact conversation with T, but the word was "gross" and it was because she ate sand. EWWW.
