- I get to watch the video announcements.
- I get to see what kinds of books kids like to check out, providing me with a list of book ideas for the boys. (Hint: books about animals are wildly popular.)
- I love creating order out of chaos.
- It is QUIET.
Right after announcements, both boys came to the library to pick the books they wanted to donate.
I can not stress enough how excited both boys were. Not only did they get to hear their name on the announcements, they got to leave their classrooms for a special trip to the library. Alex burst in with a huge smile and Nate walked into the library with what could only be called a swagger. It was one of the highlights of kindergarten for me to get to be at the library and witness this.

This is just so full of awesome. What a great program for the school and for the kids. I love it.
Our library has a similar program. I picked out J's "birthday book" during the September book fair and promptly forgot about it. He was THRILLED to get in the car a couple of weeks ago covered in glitter (in his hair for a week) and with "his" book. Normally, Kindergartners are not allowed to bring library books home, but he got to bring "his" book home for a week. It was a big hit!
I am lucky enough to teach at the school AJ goes to. It is so fun/exciting to see when he gets chosen for things. It is a great feeling as a mom! So glad that you were able to be there for that. :)
As a librarian, I love hearing happy library and book stories! What a great way to get kids excited about books and reading. And so special for you to be there for it.
And that is why schools in Cary rock.
Happy belated Mother's Day to you and happy early birthday to the boys!
What a great idea! Michael's class does a book for your birthday as the gift. I can't wait to see what he gets tomorrow.
