Pretty glad I read that book

You guys know the love I have for the Ames' development books. The boys are now into the book that spans age 5.5 to 7:

Your Six Year Old: Loving and Defiant

In addition to defying us, one of my loving defiant boys expresses his defiance by trying to defy society's conventions. He often talks about how he wants to wear pink or grow his hair out like a girl. When we tell him it is fine, boys can wear pink and have long hair (which we do actually believe), he immediately backtracks because he is no longer defying us.

Last night at dinner he told us he is a girl. I said he couldn't be a girl because he has a pen*s. He said, "Well I want to cut off my pen*s."

I may have failed parenting on this one because I laughed out loud and could not stop.

I would have laughed too. Because it's funny. And, because sometimes that's all you can do.

I think that is the appropriate response to that statement. Yep, definitely laughter.

Hilarious. I love the A&I books, too. My 4-year-old personifies their "wild and wonderful" book to a T.
