Hippie teething necklaces work!!!

With an engineering degree, I am VERY skeptical of things like magnetic bracelets. I've seen crunchy kids wearing beaded necklaces before like the one Alex has been wearing lately but I always thought they were just crazy hippie necklaces. A couple of years ago, I learned they were teething necklaces. First thought...honestly? STONES do not help teething!

My friend Maria is the one of my parenting role models and I do not say that lightly. Ever since the first time I saw her with her kids, I was so impressed that she could be a cool mom but also a firm mom with lots of limits. I saw a picture of her son wearing a teething necklace so I asked Maria if it worked. She said it did, and then she explained the beads are actually amber, which is a resin. The resin warms up against the skin and absorbs into the body.

With both boys about to lose teeth, I then asked twitter if kids get teething pain with big kid teeth. 100% of answers said yes, and Maria offered to send me an extra necklace.

Right before the necklace showed up, Alex started chewing on everything. Hands in mouth, shirt in mouth, chewing on toys. Chewing on everything is pretty much the reason my kids were sick for the first two years of their lives, so I will do anything to stop that.

We put the necklace on Alex and HE HASN'T CHEWED ON ANYTHING SINCE!! I don't know and I don't care if it's because the necklace is working or it's a placebo effect on him or it's because the necklace reminds him not to chew. It's working.

I ordered one for Nate because he's jealous of Alex's. Maria got them here.

That's really interesting about the amber! I don't recall getting teething pain with the adult teeth coming in, but I'm going to file away the info for a few years from now.

I am so getting one for Seth. Regardless of how well it works, it's so cute! I guess I'm into the hippie look. LOL. Maybe I should let the boys grow out their hair . . .

So happy it's helping him! And you, with so many kind words about me...thank you. I feel the very same way about you.

1. DUH, Maria is the awesomest.

2. I might have to get one for Daniel. He's young for new teeth, but HOLY COW has he been sticking everything in his mouth recently...

That's really cool about the necklace. I looked in Michael's mouth last week and one of his 6 year molars was already halfway through!

I've heard that they really do work too. And Alex looks great so it's a win/win.

I have another Techer engineering friend who swears by them too. I'm still having a hard time with it :)

I REALLY wish that I had of known more about these for the three kids when they are in full fledged teething mode! On another note, I just bought myself one — lovely! Can only help right?!?

I'm going to have to get one too. Sophia is getting her two year molars and she won't stop chewing her fingers!

Faith lost her first tooth yesterday and the second is just days away, I think. I will have to ask her if it hurts...I don't remember that, but then again, most of my childhood is a fog.

This is one of the times I'm glad my child can't feel pain. I may keep it in mind for kid #2 who does feel pain.

You are totally right about Maria's awesomeness.

My almost 2-year-old boys have had their amber necklaces since they were 4 months old. Not once have I known they were teething until their new teeth came through - even their molars and eye teeth! I LOVE their necklaces, and recommend them to everyone! One of my boys gets ezcema, and the hazelwood/amber combo helps A LOT with that, too :-)

So glad it's helping Alex!
