I mostly wanted to do this because I thought this would help improve my photography. Starting my business pushed my photography more in every aspect than I ever imagined. It improved everything - my workflow, my speed, my interaction with people, my understanding of light, and creating my vision. During Project 365, I found myself taking a photo just to get it done. Those are not the kinds of photos I want.
I also had grand plans to complete an album at the end of the year. To me, it is completely unrealistic to pick just one photo a day for an album. With two kids, sometimes I can not pare it down to one. And sometimes, it takes more than one photo to tell the story I want to tell.
I wanted to show an example of what I mean, so here are some extra photos I took the day of our holiday card shoot. I'm going to just post the photos without captions to see if the photos can tell the story for me. Could you imaging picking just one of these?

Sometimes to get farther in our dreams, we have to say good bye to old dreams that don't fit us. Good bye Project 365, another time. Maybe.

Makes sense to me. The idea behind project 365 is to force you to bring photography into your life and appreciate the how it can enhance your life. You nailed that one quite some time ago.
Off topic. In the past few months something about Alex looks different, but I can't put my finger on it. Has his hair gotten lighter? Is he taller? Has his face matured? He's still Alex, but he seems somehow different. Am I the only one?
It sounds like a good idea in theory but I know it's something I could never complete.
Ditto Joanna.
If something you love becomes yet another item on the great Golden to-do list in the sky then is it really worthy of your time?
Good call to realize this now and not in 6 months.
Hey Laura, just my 2 cents but I think you should make the project work for you instead of worrying about the one picture per day rule. Picture what you want the album to look like at the end of the year and make that your project. I mean, who says you can only have one picture per day if you want to include more? Who says you have to have at least one picture per day? Why don't you have a goal of at least x pictures per week instead. Maybe they will all be on the same day or maybe they will be spread out during the week, but at the end of the year you will have an album that tells the story you want to tell and that you can use to evaluate the new techniques tried.
Totally agree with Joanna. If it isn't working, don't bother. It's not worth it if it feels like a chore. And just because it serves a purpose for some people doesn't mean it will serve the same purpose or serve it in the right way for you.
Love the out-takes. :-)
What cute photos!
Picking one is my hardest part most of the time. But my 365 isn't some grand plan to take better photos (though that is my grand plan in life.) but to capture little moments that I would probably not take otherwise. Seeing a daily account of my boys growing up, even if they are technically questionable or don't tell the whole story, is pretty cool. Which reminds me, I made the 2011:365 book, I need to order it. EPIC TO DO LIST keeps growing.
Hi Laura, oh my, I can't imagine why you couldn't pick just one photo! When they are presented all together like that, they are telling the most glorious story! Love, Love, Love!
I too am doing a picture a day on my blog, but, never intended to hold it to one. So many times it is impossible. So I just "stole the idea" and and am reworking it into my blog to suit me. I'm enjoying the challenge of coming up with something and also, supporting it with an idea/story/whatever. So far that is, day 27 only. I love all of the pictures you put on here. Keep them coming--please!
