At the time, it was SUPER EMOTIONAL for us for him to get a helmet, wear a helmet, and go to physical therapy. Plus we had that other super cranky baby with reflux who vomited all the time. At age 5, I never think about the helmet. It seems so far away and Alex has a PERFECT head. I only remember how cute he looked in it:

I need to be able to take slightly wider angle photos for my photography business (and inside my own home) so this weekend I rented the Canon 24mm 1.4 and the Canon 35mm 1.4. The 24mm was immediately out because it distorts people even when far away, even on a 1.6x body. And when I saw this close up of Alex, which is weird distortion because his head is turned slightly one direction, it took my breath away. THIS is what Alex would have looked like without a helmet.

Freaky right?????
Even though I'm never ever buying that lens for portrait photography, I did play around with the distortion a bit before returning it. And I can't leave you with a photo like of my baby so please see this:

That picture is crazy. Sophia was looking at this post with me, she laughed and said "Baby hat!" Makes me think of her and her brace that always made her look like a bow-legged cowboy!
What? Who would WANT that lens? For what type of photography! I remember the helmet days on your blog. Oh he was (and is) cute! But that picture is freaky!
That's crazy what a difference a lens can make. Distorting them light waves and all of that.
He can give his brother grief for putting on that weight on his head ;-)
aphI remember those helmet photos. I remember thinking they were totally cute!! But wow -- it would NOT have been cute to have Alex's head turn out that way...no, sirree!
And I'm with Elizabeth: Alex has a definite axe to grind with Nate for that one!
See, I'm just a sucker for those big brown eyes. Even the freaky head picture is cute in it's own way. But that last one, OM NOM NOM!
Great timing, Laura!
Both of my girls have had plagiocephaly: my first was a 26 weeker who was busy with other things like surviving and learning to eat, so she never got a helmet. By the time it came up, it was (mostly) too late anyway, and our ped said, "Well, she's a girl, so her hair will cover it."
My 4mo made it to 37 weeks, but her head must still be really soft because it's flatter than a pancake, despite all my repositioning. We're meeting with a neurosurgeon in two weeks to discuss helmeting and I'm all for it. This post really helped, at just the right time.
Big hugs!
We did the helmet thing, too. I still have the helmet and came across it awhile back. It's amazing how big it seemed then and how tiny it seems now. I'll be getting out my camera this weekend and taking photos - you remind me I should leave it out more often.
