I blame you ALL (if you have kids older than mine)

How many times do I have to say that the hardest part of being first time parents to twins is that we are perpetual rookies? And that we have to learn lessons the hard way... times two?

We didn't really let the boys use pencils much before they started kindergarten. Do you have two boys? Then you know why we made that wise decision. Kindergarten rang in the era of pencils to our house. Jon and I are not dumb enough to manually sharpen pencils for two boys so we bought an electric pencil sharpener. In our genius first time parent way, we left the pencil sharpener out for the boys to use whenever they NEED.

Did we consider they would use it ALL THE TIME? No. Did y'all warn me? NO.

Basically every pencil in our house has been sharpened down to a nub. A very sharp nub. Elfie got in on the action, and sharpened two pencils the way Nate and Alex sharpen pencils.

(Sorry I went crazy with the holiday light bokeh in the background. Best use of 1.2 lens ever.)

You were brave to get the electric sharpener AND leave it where they boys can use it. I force mine to use the old-fashioned kind over the garbage can :)

I never thought about doing an Elf, though I had seen it advertised. You've pretty much convinced me to do it next year. And I'll pretty much be copying everything you did this year!

I cannot believe you did not realize they would do this. I know from my personal pencil sharpening experience that kids will do the same thing with a manual pencil sharpener as well. It just takes longer. That never deterred me. To this day I still love the smell of manual crank pencil sharpeners, and I love the feel of the crank as it chews through a pencil.

I guess it would have been wrong to cut of Elfie's hand and then stick it into the pencil sharpener, wouldn't it? Funny, but wrong.

When BC's mother was a baby they were known as pencias in our house. It was in fact her first word. No matter where you hid them she always found them and darted around shreaking "pencia!", writing on everything and poking everyone. To this day she has a pencia tattoo on her left cheek from some sort of collision involving that writing implement. I don't know how you kept them from the boys for so long.

SORRY!! There are just SO many things to warn you about...this older kid stuff is a whole new breed of insanity. The pencils, oh the pencils...we have tiny bullet stubs all over the house.

I love your bokeh. ;)

I too love me some bokeh and haven't been able to figure out how to do it on my (very decent) Point and Shoot. At least, not on purpose.

I also love our electric pencil sharpener and can see its appeal. I think it's like the handwashing that goes on at T's daycare. In her new class, they have a kid-level sink, soap dispenser, etc. so they're in there all day washing their hands ;)
