Yesterday I took down the 9 ft tall roll of paper we used as a backdrop for our holiday card, seen here:

What I did not think about was that it is stiff, seamless paper. When I pulled it down, it folded over and created the world's most awesome cave. There are twin five year old boys under there:

I am not kidding when I say the boys played in it for hours. They said they wanted to live there forever. It had to leave my office so Jon and I moved it to Alex's room. They piled toys and art supplies in there:

A house full of brand new toys and the boys play with a PIECE OF PAPER. And that is why I don't truly feel grinchy.

Cute! It looks like they even took their flash light into the man cave with them :)
Love it!
I don't think it's grinchy at all! I've always said that our kids get enough stuff from other people. I actually wrapped things up from the GARAGE for our younger son. And our older son got some books and the one thing he requested, a paddle ball. And some fun stocking stuffers and socks..
awesome! we don't do lots of crazy stuff either for Christmas. I don't want them to expect quantity. Instead we do the same thing as you - we focus on experiences and creating memories. The few cool gifts they do get from Santa are the icing on the cake.
That is awesome! It's like a tent that you can write on. You should show them how to do shadow portraits on it with the flashlight.
Of the obscene amount of gifts Michael got, one of his favorites so far is a Mead notebook and box of Ticonderoga pencils that my mom got him. take that Santa.
My girls were playing with the living room coasters yesterday. I mean, why do we bother?
There is just something about tents and forts, isn't there?! Glad you had a good Christmas.
Cool! I love that you said "it had to be out of my office". I totally know what you mean ;)
Yep, T's favorite "gift" was the $1.50 pack of colored pens we bought at Daiso on our holiday fun bus trip downtown. I didn't even wrap them ;)
I like the Year of Connection. How do you "remind" yourself of your theme when things get crazy? Do you hang it up somewhere?
Have fun w/ Irene and house-o-boys!
I don't think that is Grinchy! I think it is wonderful! You know I'm on the same page with you there. And that paper fort is amazing. I wish I had one. I'd hide in it for hours too, except there'd be magazines and (sugar-free) chocolates in it, not art supplies. Oh, and lots of pillows!
