Breathing out

When Jon and I got married, we finished all the preparations and planning three weeks in advance. Then we just had to sit around and wait to get married. It was a cranky three weeks, waiting for the big thing looming in front of us.

That's how kindergarten has felt. The prep work has been done (both emotional and physical) and we've just been waiting for day care to end and school to start.

After dropping the boys at their classrooms, we attended kindergarten kickoff this morning (the 7th kindergarten event, if you're counting). It feels like a big ball of anxiety has been lifted out of our house. All of us are ready to start working on getting into our kindergarten groove - bus drop offs, bus pick ups, packing lunches, homework. Bring it.

PS. First order of business with the day care money we no longer pay? We ordered Nate new bedroom furniture. We live LARGE peoples.

I'm almost jealous that you guys are already there. William is SO ready to start K! As for our extra daycare money--each month,we're pocketing the money to pay for . . . you guessed it . . . new furniture! First up--a new grill! It just so happens that our first pocketed daycare money coincides with Ed's birthday, so he thinks the grill is a birthday present for him. :-)

The downside of being prepared? So worth it.

I cannot for the life of me figure out why Kindergartner's need to do homework. We've been doing it once a week at daycare for the past 6 months, and I have no idea why. (which might explain why we haven't done it for the past two weeks)

Yayyy, for the load off!

I am doing the exact opposite. The kids had Assessment Day on Saturday, to see if they get into private school. If they do, I have to pay a LOT of money each year. We are saving, saving, saving over here.

(Even though I have an account with a LOT of money in that I have saved since Richard was born, specially for this time)

I can see where you are ready to be past all these prep events and just start getting into the groove. Conversely, we get an hour meet and greet with Jadyn's teacher the night before and that's it. I wish we had a little more prep, although I suspect that she will do fine.

Can't wait to see the new furniture!

I think I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum, not on the prepared front, but on my reality of starting day care as well as K ramp up in the same week. Send me your bliss vibe, the knot is starting to form.

I can't wait to free up that daycare check. I see a party in my future when that happens

What do you do when they come home from school? Do you finish working by then or do you have a sitter for a few hours?

Good question from Angel.

I can't see a downside to being that prepared :)

This time with the nanny is the best financially it's ever going to be in terms of their expenses. I dread watching money again when they have to go to pre-school.

Oh, I hate that initial start-stop-start again thing at the beginning of the school year. Much better when you can start to settle into a routine.

Hope the adjustment continues to be a smooth one and the boys love their new school and independence from each other. We've got another 4-5 weeks before school starts, though I'm looking forward to getting the mailing soon with all of the dates to put in my calendar. Is it weird that I wish there was a school supply list? God, I loved school supply shopping.
