Can someone please just decorate my house for me?

Last month I posted a photo of the bunk beds we planned to buy for each of the boys' rooms. I did some more research and then did some basic math and was all AH HELL NO. Two sets of bunk beds + four mattresses + all new sheets + decorations for walls + dressers = enough money for an insanely super awesome vacation. Like a family vacation to Hawaii for a week. Or Europe. Or Africa.

Then I went to Ikea with Maria in Boston and thought - we'll just get Ikea bunks. Totally forgetting that we have an Ikea bed that we SWORE we would get rid of 4 moves ago and STILL want to replace. I also forgot our Case family rule of - NO MORE IKEA.

We finally decided to get one set of bunk beds and put them in Alex's room. We asked Nate if he was fine with that. He said, "Yes. As long as I get to sleep in Alex's room every night." Help me out buddy!!!

So we went back to the bunk bed store last night to look at the SUPER SAFE step bunks one last time. Alex immediately did this:

Step bunk

Um.... this is not any safer. In fact, this may be less safe than regular bunk beds.

After all of this churn, we finally decided to get normal cherry twin bunk beds for Alex's room. They arrive next Saturday. I need some kind of personal shopper to make all these decisions and purchases for me. Any takers?

OK - I missed some stuff. Why was the plan to get bunk beds for EACH of the rooms (did I get this right)?

Why no more IKEA?

I need to know these things.

I still (to this day) remember that post you did when the boys were toddlers about what you thought their room was going to look like, and what it actually looked like. I loved that post. It kept it real.
That is MY life.

You know why I like our normal, removable-ladder bunk beds? I can remove the ladder. James is currently sleeping on the bottom bunk, so the ladder to the top is stowed safely on the top one. Any time Andrew is in there? No ladder. Friends over? No ladder. Need room to pull out the trundle? No ladder.

I too was sure I wanted bunk beds with stairs, that is until we were shopping for them and the boys both went up the stairs at the same time and started to push each other down the stairs! We went with a bunk bed with removeable ladder also. However, my boys have figured out how to scale the end and climb up the bed itself....even if the ladder is DOWN!!!

sounds like reason enough for me to move to NC! if I could just convince my husband.... ;)

I had a solid wood bunk bed set growing up that I had forever, my sister used for a while, and then I eventually took to college with me to put in my dorm room. It was heavy solid wood and you just climbed the end rails like a ladder. It was plenty safe. Boys are just monkeys anyway!

Wait, you really think Alex needs a ladder to get to the top bunk of bunk beds? That's so cute! ; )

Seriously, I think the standard ladder will work. And take up less space.

As for decorating you house for you? Not a good idea since I haven't decorated my house yet.

What store did you go to?

Long story short, I broke Lily's bed a few weeks ago. She's been on the floor since. I priced some out online, but haven't known where to look in person.

I almost drove myself insane trying to pick out a bed for Claire. Didn't help that I was pregnant at the time! We wanted something with a trundle so that she could be low to the ground (she was barely two at the time and still so tiny), but I didn't want to spend a ton on a bed I knew would likely get several dings in the next few years.

After visiting every furniture store in town (multiple times) and looking all over the web, we ended up finding a bed at Costco of all places, and it has been perfect. They may be my go-to place when it's time for Will to get a big boy bed in a couple of years.

I'll be interested to see how they do sharing sleeping space while keeping separate personal bedrooms. This is the long term plan with our boys, but with a 4 year age gap it will be a very long time to do it safely.

I can really relate to the NO MORE IKEA thing. I take (and, of course, break) this oath about once every 3 years. One day it will take :-)

Dude! I had a more important topic to blog about today BUT this post is coming up.

There are clearly two problems in my world:

1) My brain doesn't know how to decorate. It is embarrassing to admit this.

2) Why does everything cost so much!!

I have issues with Ikea too! I do want to eventually get bunk beds for the boys. If we can find a set that we can use with both of them down on the floor while they are smaller and then put one on top of the other as actual bunks when they get older.
