Back to regularly scheduled photo blogging

In the final big push to get my photography website launched, I took a lot less photos of the boys than I normally do. I can't explain the number of hours I poured over thousands of photos to painstakingly pick each one that would be displayed. The idea of spending more time in front of Photoshop seemed like a chore to me. But I'm back with my camera in front of Nate and Alex's faces YAY!

Something about age 5... Alex is more and more boy every day. Lots of shouting, tumbling, getting dirty and pretending everything is a light saber or a sword. We have a long paper tube we use to get legos out from under the couch and that thing has been put in time out more times than I can count.

I decided to snap a few pictures while hanging out in our house, as we have very few of our times in the new house. As I watched Alex play, he did this and I had no idea what he was about to do. He did a cartwheel... ON THE COUCH. And I had to point out to him why this was dangerous (!).

We go through band-aids like no one's business in this house due to all the jumping, falling, running, scraping, and tumbling. Much like the diapers we used to carry, we now have band-aids stuffed into every extra space - the pool bag, glove compartments, my purse. I want to tell them to slow down, stop acting crazy, watch what you're doing but the craziness brings them so much joy that I just need to shut my yap and let them learn the hard way.

Cameron is in the stage where she WANTS bandaids, even if they aren't necessary. We go with the plain ones but it doesn't matter. Yesterday she had a bug bite so I put some witch hazel on it and ocvered it with a bandaid. The best part? She didn't scratch it!

That last photo is absolutely the best. It's the kind that most don't think to take, but that truly capture those moments that slip from memory as they grow. Awesome.

I'm sure the boys are just thrilled to death that you are back to taking pictures of them, aren't they?

Well, even if they aren't, I am. Love, love, love the last picture of Alex.

If I din't personally remember all the crazy things we did on our sofa, I'd wonder what it is that drives kids to do cartwheels on sofas.

Emory is one big bruise/scrape from head to toe. He acts first thinks second. I gave up telling him to be careful. I just kiss the new booboo and off he goes again. Then we hear about it for two more weeks. When the boys were born I promised Nathan I wouldn't freak out about every little bump and fall. As a result I just let them go for it and only stop then when I think they could poke out an eye or break something! Boys are fun!

The first and second pictures remind of things that Jake would do but I am in love, love, love with that last one. You have inspired me to try and take more candids. I really need to. And to also shut my yap sometimes and let kids be kids. Good advice.

Oh the relationship between kids and bandaids! I have spent the past two days being the first aid "nurse" at our church's vacation Bible school. It is a steady stream of scrapes, cuts and assorted boo-boo's, and all most of those kids need is to simply glimpse at a bandaid and they are feeling better!

We used to only bring out the bandaids if there was blood, but it works so well to calm the four-year-old drama that I quit caring if we plaster bandaids on imaginary wounds. Whatever it takes, right?!

Love the Superman t-shirt. I'm looking for two like that for the boys. Where did you find it?
