Jon is gone this week which is why I am SO BEHIND on life at the moment. For those that do not have traveling spouses, the logistics never really get contemplated. He is often in another time zone meeting with customers. Every day he is gone, we discuss whether I can or can not text or call him. Generally I can NOT call or text Jon when he is gone.
I've got five years of a traveling spouse under my belt so I am VERY adept at dealing with situations. Kid with a 105 fever at 11PM? Jon didn't get a call until the fever was under control and I had a Plan A and a Plan B. Vomiting kids? Laundry is done by the time he gets home. But last night.... oh I was not prepared for last night.
At bedtime, one boy was changing into pajamas when he said, "My p*nis hurts." NEVER something you want to hear. Or see, really. I checked it out and there was definitely some kind of heat rash going on all kinds of places down there. I asked the kid to show me his underwear he wore to school (because you know he was nekkid at this point). He put them on and to put it politely... ALL of his junk was hanging out the leg hole.
YES I am excited my children can dress themselves. But perhaps we need a new rule of "if your junk is hanging out the sides of your underwear, you need to tell me." I guess they've worn the (coveted) white pairs (tidy whities) so many times the elastic stretched a little too much.
But then WHAT TO DO??? I've never had heat rash like that because I don't have those parts. Do we even have stuff to deal with that kind of rash in the house? Dr google is NOT a place to look for advice for "rash on junk." With Jon gone, I immediately called my sister, who has a son older than Nate and Alex. She recommended neosporin but I used desitin and everything was clear this morning.
So in an already crazy week, now I need to add ALL NEW UNDERWEAR to the list of things to buy before vacation. And probably pack some Desitin to go. And somehow wipe my brain of the number of times I heard the word "p*nis" last night while the boys ENDLESSLY discussed what transpired.

Ah, the joys of being a boy mom. I've told Bryan that HE is in charge of puberty.
At least you had a go-to person. Michael was diagnosed with the hernia and I noticed he was swollen down there but didn't know that it was out of the ordinary. I don't have experience with boy parts either.
So, your sister is on speed dial so that you can NOT do what she recommends? Not getting this one.
Actually, I'm just being dense because I'm at work and don't want to snort over the possible results you might get from Googling "rashes on junk".
Thank you so much for the laugh! As the wife of a traveling spouse -I totally relate. Have had various rashes of unknown origin on "the junk" and I use aquaphor and usually that works as well - just fyi...I do wonder what results you would get with google. :-)
So real. Love that diaper cream still takes care of all ailments down there. As a wife whose spouse formerly spent much time abroad, I can relate. And since I too travel, I actually have the # of a doc who makes house calls in case of a middle of the night ailment while only one parent is home. Expensive but so worth it.
=( Sorry Mama. We switched from tighty undies to the longer boy briefs (not boxers, the cottom ones that are tighter on the legs) when Heaten started complaining the tighties hurt his weiner (when he was "excited"). We got ours from Target in the bigger boys section.
TMI! :)
Wow, I guess I learned something. I was so nervous before we knew Kylee was a girl. I have absolutely no experience in the boy department. I wanted Kylee to be a girl because I didn't think I would know how to care for a boy. I guess it is a learn as you go experience.
Ah, boys and their junk. Thanks for the laugh and I am glad that all is well.
Sounds like lots of fun. I've had a traveling spouse since child #1 was born 10 years ago. Once when she was 2 years old, we were at the emergency room trying to figure out what the mysterious fever and curled up in fetal position was about. Never did figure it out. All tests came back fine and she was fine in the morning. He showed up at the ER at about 2 AM, she was asleep, I was exhausted and we still had to wait for the xray results, which turned out to be "no issues". They were looking for a blockage in the intestines. Hang in there. I'm feeling for you.
Ahhhh! This made me LOL. I'm totally not a boy mom but I appreciate the laugh.
My daughter is still too young to talk but I have a similar story from watching our 5 year old niece about a year ago.
Totally not prepared for these situations.
Laura, I know this was stressful for you, and God bless the kid with the rashy pee-pee, but whooooweeee this was funny! One question: How do you still have Desitin in the house after all these years of being diaper-free? Is it good for other post-potty-training things?
Thanks for always letting me know what I have to look forward to in the future.
