Best quote ever from Your Five Year Old

One of the things mentioned in Ames' five year old book is this age is marked by lack of confidence. We are definitely experiencing lack of confidence with Alex and swimming. He KNOWS how to swim but does not think he can swim. Last night was the first night we got him to go in the deep end and we only got him to do that by getting in with him and taking him past his comfort zone.

Let me remind you of last summer!

Alex off the 1m

OY.

At least the weather has been hella hot so the pool is warming up quickly.

While I'm in the topic of Your Five Year Old, let me share my favorite quote. From the epilogue:

Five may be one of the nicest ages you ever encounter. Your time with your Five year old may well be one of the most rewarding periods in your entire relationship with your son or daughter.

What is so glorious about the typical Five year old is that to Five, you, the care-giving parent, are the center of the universe. He or she wants to please you, wants to be good, wants to do right.

This pinnacle of affirmation, this peak of perfection, may in all likelihood be never met with again. So enjoy it while it lasts.

FINALLY PEOPLES!

Hmm, I'm skeptical. We're only 15 days in and so far I'm not a fan. Yesterday Elijah did a math worksheet and wrote zero for every answer, clearly NOT trying to please me!

We definitely found that to be true. It's 5.5 to 6 that's been trying for us. Hope you get the same good 5s that we did!

And, hope you're feeling better :)

Five was good. Ada is a kid who already sees me as center of her universe, though increasingly friends are important planets as well.

Unrelated, I have been wanting to say hi lately as I HAVE BEEN RUNNING! I started up (after not running for 20 years). This week I did my first 5 mile run. Not moving too fast, but moving!

Umm. That is interesting! Food for thought! I was thinking about 6 year olds I know how just how 'grown up' they seem. I'll take all of the love while I can!

I just read the 6yo book. Apparently at 5yo, mommy is the center of their universe and at 6yo they are their own center. (which is stressful for them. and stressful for you.) So def enjoy this year!!

A of older teens/adults I agree wholeheartedly. I loved the age 5 with all of my boys. And I also agree with the lack of self confidence. It will come back!!
