Reaping the rewards

Every April, we seem to have an uptick in craziness and insanity in our house. And so every April, I check out the next year's Ames' development book (Your One Year Old, Your Two Year Old, etc). I've already written about the awesomeness of these books. Let's look at the titles:

One Year Old: Fun-Loving, Fussy
Two Year Old: Terrible or Tender
Three Year Old: Friend or Enemy (YOU MUST READ THIS!)
Four Year Old: Wild and Wonderful

Wild and Wonderful accurately represents this last year. Jon and I have struggled emotionally this year with the "wild" part. Some days it is hard to remember the boys are not heathens and it is their age. But the wonderful part has been truly wonderful.

We've had a very calm April. Jon and I have been in shock because the boys get along so well and play together for so long, we almost don't know what to do with ourselves. I wondered what five would be like and I was SO INSANELY HAPPY to see this cover:

SUNNY AND SERENE???? Bring it, 5.

I keep hearing that 5 is when negativity decreases and compliance increases. Though occasionally I hear a "just wait until they're 5." But sunny and serenity sounds fantastic to me, and exactly what I'm going to need next year!

I won't be holding my breath for sunny and serene over here after the April we have had!

That sounds WONDERFUL!!!!

Wild is SO what we are experiencing now. It is fun, mind you, but crazy for sure.

Oh my word - I'm going to order the 3 year book today. It seems like the day after Claire's birthday the attitude problems and whining increased exponentially. Thank you for the recommendation!

You are in for a treat! Five has been wonderful. 5.5, not so much :) I checked out Ames's Six Year Old book, and it's subtitle is Loving and Defiant. That about sums it up. So enjoy five as it comes your way!

While sunny and serene sounds awesome, it also sounds a lot like a weather forecast...and we know how often those are right. I'm not holding my breath.

Wow, what wonderful false hope that title gives me! ;)

After being around a 6 and 8 year olds obsessed with video games for 2 days I have seen a potential future for the V boys.

Given their father, this is going to be a fight, but I am hanging onto the desire to simply play for as long I can. We already have set rules for when and where on phones and iPad usage but Ben has tasted the apple and is already asking for what his friends had for his birthday.

I have loved this age more than any other for sheer unconditional love and spike in maturity from Ben.

Funny timing, I just reserved Your ONE Year Old last night to reread again.

Oh I hope that is true!!! Cam has been so naughty and mischievous the past two months. If he makes it to 5 I hope things get better.

I'm reading the 3 book now and yes, it's a must read! It really puts everything into such great perspective. Although I'm getting nervous about how often they suggest babysitters for 3.5 year olds. The fall could be tricky for us!

That gave me a chuckle! One can only hope!
