Being a boy mom

Being a twin mom, I generally avoid crowded parks in our area because it's too hard keeping track of two crazy kids when there are tons of other children around. But this weekend the Bond Park boat house opened, which means duck food to feed the ducks, so I took the boys there while Jon did a bazillion chores. Much to my surprise, we were the only people at the playground.

Bad news? You're no longer allowed to feed the birds there. Maybe because the lakefront is covered in bird crap and the birds are mostly domesticated because of the constant feeding. Good news? The boys went crazy jumping off the swings.

Jumping

Nate is a daredevil when it comes to jumping off swings. He jumps off swings when it is swinging higher than he is. The first few times, my iron stomach quivered but now I just laugh and take pictures with my phone.

Jumping

Alex has been taking it more cautiously than Nate but he does earn more style points.

Jumping

And in the haze of birthdays last week, I forgot to mention we went roller skating on cold, wet, rainy afternoon. To say the boys busted their butts falling down would be a serious understatement but they had such a blast. Filthy carpets, falling down kids and the hokey pokey - how can roller rinks not change one bit in 30 years?

Roller skating

In hindsight, I can't believe I ever wanted girls because I will take jumping off swings and Star Wars and ripped up pants knees any day over Barbies and tea parties.

Haha! That would make me a little nervous. Honestly, I could see Sophia doing this sort of thing way more than I could Elijah. She's my little dare-devil already.

well - my girl(s) are more about star wars and climbing trees and skate board ramps. We have never owned a Barbie. Or a tea set.

Yep, you are totally a boy mom. I think that's been clear for a while.

You totally forgot lifetime attendence at monster truck rallies. And when you DO go I'll lend you my TAL shirt just for the irony. As far as being a boy mom, I can't imagine anything else than screaming my head off when GraveDigger did a full 180 flip. SWEET.

Marking roller skating as a potential date night w/ Ben. Funny factor alone would be worth it.

Curious to know if roller skating rinks still smell the same too - ;-)
We went to the play ground yesterday as well and the boys discovered swing jumping. And the littlest one discovered the very high fireman pole. I was SO not meant to be a "boy" mom so it's a good thing I have so many to distract me ... it gives them a little more freedom to try things when I'm busy with one of their siblings. Once I see they are okay having tried something, I have no problem with them doing them over and over. It's just that FIRST attempt! (Although we ALL will be watching Star Wars...!)

Couldn't have said it better myself (the last part about being a boy mom). The iron stomach? Not so much. I'm uber impressed with both boys' abilities. LOL. Just glad it's not my boys. :-)

Oh! Roller skating sounds so fun! And I agree, I was made to be a mom to boys. Though once in a while I see something sparkly or pretty...then I get it for my niece ;)
