I barely took any pictures in January and February. I needed a break from my camera to think about where I'm headed.
I've finally realized I like my photography like I like my blogging like I like my friends like I like everything: REAL. I like my blog with public diarrhea stories along with the "look at our happy perfect family on the beach!!!" stories.
Taking those beach photos made me realize that while I am always trying to capture that elusive "perfect" shot of the boys, what I love the most are the real moments. This is Nate's "real" face.

I'm pretty blessed with my subjects as Nate is uber-photogenic and Alex's face is uber-expressive. Why don't you ask Alex how he felt about having his photo taken? I'll post his REAL response. Goodness, this picture makes me laugh out loud!

Big things are coming in 2011 with my photography, this I know after these contemplative months. I am so so so ready for spring in so many different ways.

LOVE that picture of Alex. I agree with you - I like a certain reality to photos. I mean, yes, sometimes you want the darn kid to just smile already. But the other ones are just as great, if not even better.
I love your blog! That picture of Alex is priceless!
I'm a sucker for serious face pictures, so I love the picture of Nate. I've seen that look before on my sister's face, it's a face that get's things done.
As for Alex's face? It's a good thing he's not my kid because I would never, ever be able to say no to him.
A perfect picture is nice for a frame, but when you capture a moment of your children just being themselves, there is nothing like it. One of my favorite pictures is of me and my 3 girls making silly faces. We have it hanging on our wall because my husband caught us just being silly and it is sweet perfection.
I LOVE these 2 pictures of Nate and Alex. Frame 'em!
I love your real stuff. And I love your best shots! That is what makes you great photographer. But hey, you are also a Mom. So at times, we have to give ourselves permission to just post photos that real. I know I face the same thing. Then I just stop taking photos. I end up with crappy iphone photos most of the time.
I am SUPER excited to hear more about your photography in 2011!! Yay!
I love your blog, love you, how much you love your family, and I love your photos! Your passion shows.
This picture of Alex make me smile so much. The eyebrows and the superman shirt make it even more awesome! You are really becoming a phenomenal photographer. Cannot wait for our turn.
Also, I love that becoming feeling. Unbeatable.
I'm so freaking excited for you!
That photo of Alex made me laugh out loud too ... in public.
That picture of Alex is classic. What a face to capture and show him down the road.
That's why I have a photog come to our house instead of hauling everyone to Sears. I want *all* the shots, even the "baby is having a cranky uncooperative morning" ones. (Our photo shoot from last weekend is going to be very interesting. I'm not sure T cracked a smile even once.)
love the pics.
popping in to say I agree - real is good.
Also, to ask for advice on a 50mm lens. I got birthday money for one in December and have too busy to shop for one. Any advice is appreciated!
