Update on many things unrelated to children

I got my hearing aid 3 weeks ago and I love it. It is barely noticeable unless you are looking for it. I had some crazy feedback issues when they cranked it to 100% but they are fixed. There are two issues with the hearing aid:
  • I have to blow dry my hair before wearing it. Lazy Laura does not like this.
  • Why didn't anyone tell me my children are SO FREAKING LOUD??!??!?!?!?!?!

I have been exhausted the last month, truly and terribly exhausted. It makes no sense because Jon has been home the entire time. It has not been conducive to making 2011 the Best Year Ever. Yesterday results came back that my vitamin D levels are super duper low. Maybe because I wear sunscreen to prevent more skin cancer??? I'm taking a megadose of vitamin D and will report back.

Many people have been emailing to ask about the new house. We are IN LOVE with it. I've been hesitant to write about it in this space because I don't want to seem overly crazy about physical possessions. We all needed more space, particularly with Jon and I both telecommuting. The downstairs is close to done and I've gotten enough requests for pictures I snapped some quick (crappy unedited) photos:

The Legos are a nice decorating touch, huh? The sectional is AWESOME and the picture does not do justice to how big it is. Jon (at 6'4") comfortably lays down and still has room for his feet. All four of us can watch tv without anyone feeling like they are going to be suffocated.

We still need window treatments and blinds and more decorative items but hello, life is freaking busy.

And for those who have not heard yet, Jon is going on a round-the-world business trip in February. The itinerary is impressive:

Raleigh - Detroit - Seoul - Tokyo - Singapore - Johannesburg - Atlanta - Raleigh

Before kids, I would have been so jealous and/or figured out a way to tag along. After kids, I feel bad for Jon spending that much time in airports and being away from our family for so long.

The only *teeny tiny* reason I would want to tag along is to go to Seoul or Tokyo and see Jon standing amidst a sea of short Asians. Instead I will be bombarding this blog with pictures, videos, and stories in February so Jon can keep in touch.

Love the color scheme. And I am fan of less is more so I like the decorative accents as they are.

Yeah, I would feel the same way about all that traveling. I am assuming it will pretty much be back to back?

In high school I was an exchange student in Japan. As a tall, fat girl, people would literally stop and watch me. I even had people come feel my face because I was so pale. I bet people will follow Jon around in Tokyo! He should try to go to Asakusa while he is in Tokyo (and get a picture pretending to hold the giant paper lantern up).

Your house is beautiful-looks like something out of a magazine! And laughing about the loudness of the kids, that's how I've felt for just about forever about my own. Holy COW they are loud! And you should have someone take a pic of your super tall hubs sticking out like a sore thumb in Tokyo. :-)

Gorgeous House! I love it - keep the pictures coming!

And good job architect for developing a way to hold a big TV and see it in the living room without having it above the fireplace!

Hope the Vitamin D does the trick. LOVE the new house pics.

And seriously, I'm just imagining the picture of Jon towering over the crowds... that would be so excellent.

Love the decor in the new place! I am trying to complete our redecorating project 3 years in the making--I just cannot accessorize, I lack the gene.

Love that sectional! In addition to being the perfect size for a family your size, t is such a great shade. We dumbly bought a lemon yellow sofa when we were childless and already, despite our boys still being infants, it's already destroyed. Sigh.
I agree with poster Jodi -- where DID you get that?

I took a friend, 6'1" blond haired blue eyed guy, with me on several Asian trips. On day one we hadn't been walking around an hour when someone walks up to him and starts swishing their camera around at him. He said, "Oh sure, I'll take a picture of you two," and starts to grab for the camera. It took a few howls and charades to figure out they wanted him in the photo, not taking the photo. This request became almost an hourly event. I learned to grab the camera while he jumped in the pic, and then we were off so he could be someone else's celebrity for the day.

That was ten years ago (geesh, how did I get so old), but I'd be surprised if Jon wasn't asked to be in a pic or two even on his quick trips.
