The one where all the Stride Rite money pays off

Since the boys could walk, we have been buying them Stride Rite (SR) shoes. After the first year or so, I tried putting the boys in Target shoes and learned Alex is super TOUGH on shoes. The Target shoes lasted about a month before they were destroyed He has never destroyed a pair of SR shoes before he outgrew them so we've continued buying SR (with a Target pair as backup).

Last week, the tongue ripped out of Nate's nearly new SR shoes. Jon took Nate back to the store to exchange them, ready to raise hell. Instead he explained the problem, they looked it up in the computer and gave Nate new shoes for free with huge apologies. And to sweeten the deal, they gave Nate (and Alex) some promotional marketing material:

Darth x2

There are going to be some epic light saber battles in the new house in the third floor bonus room.

We're a SR family, too! I've tried lots of others, but can't get any that fit quite as well.

Hassle free replacements AND Darth Vader masks? You have found utopia!

I love the SR too! Best for kids feet! We don't have a store, only a selection of their brand in our local shoe stores.

Awesome on the customer service!!

SR shoes are the only ones the boys have ever worn. And we only buy one pair for each of them at a time. We bought their first pair right before their 1st birthday and I think we are in the 4 pair right now...maybe 5th. I can't really remember. It is almost time for a new pair. I love SR. They are so helpful and so very patient with the boys. Some people think I am crazy to only have one pair of shoes per boy...I figure it is less to lose! I am glad to know they are so willing to fix a problem!

We always get SR for Cooper also. When he was younger he would wear out all other shoes in the toes, SRs were the only ones I could find with strong enough toe caps to keep him wearing them for a while. He recently acquired the Darth Vader shoes from SR courtesy of grandma and it is the first time he has ever been excited about an article of clothing!

Also, forgot to mention we had a Sperry 'church shoe' break that we had purchased for Cooper at SR and he had worn maybe two times to church. Same thing, they were happy to replace them with no problem even though I didn't have the receipt. Now I keep them even if I don't intend to return, just in case, but it was nice to know they were willing to stand by their product.

We have a Stride Rite outlet near our house. Love, love, love it! A friend's little one lost a shoe at the mall, so she walked in to buy him a new pair. The guy at the counter gave her a replacement shoe, for free!

That is so freaking awesome.

We've gone back & forth on SR vs. Target, but now I feel that much more justified in spending the money on the SR shoes. :-)

We had the same thing happen to our new pair of stride rites this month! We were perfectly happy with the shoe store sewing the tongue back in (although they offered to replace them). Love the shoes though!

We always get Michael SR shoes too. I think his foot is almost too big though as he is about to move up into the single digit shoes! We always shop at the outlet and had them replace a pair of shoes that was coming apart after 2 wears. Great customer service.

Wow - didn't realize their was so many SR devotees out there. We have to get SR shoes for both kids as they have wide feet and very few other brands carry decent quality and selection in wide width. Luckily we are close to an outlet. Also nice to know they have such great customer service and you can't beat darth vader masks to boot.

I love the Stride Rites as well. Mostly because I'm horrible at picking the right size when we go to Target.

Caden wears exclusively SR now because her feet are so narrow, but also because her Target shoes wore out after a month as well.

Thank goodness for their BOGO sale!

I am combining my comment from this post and the one about the difference between boys and girls:

I bought Lana a pair of SR shoes when she first learned to walk. Less than 2 weeks later, she kicked one off while sitting in the stroller. I retraced my steps and never found the missing shoe. I vowed to never spend that kind of $$ on her shoes again and she has been in Target shoes or crocs ever since. She has never worn out a pair b/c well, I guess that is another difference between boys and girls!
