Another item on the fall fun list

It's a delicate balance to work full-time, enjoy fall with the boys, get our house ready to sell, and pack to move. Monday night we packed the entire night, so last night we decided to focus on fun. The boys had specifically requested "Visit Wipeout Park" on the fall fun list (KidsTowne) so we grabbed a picnic dinner and headed over there last night.

There was a girls' fast pitch softball game going on at the park. I checked it out with Alex and he was utterly and completely fascinated. Nate came over as well and was also fascinated. They wanted to know exactly why everything was happening. They did not want to leave and could have stayed there all night.

I thought it would be simple to explain but DANG softball/baseball has a lot of rules and terminology!

Of course, it was complicated because it was pee wee softball. In the 3 innings we watched, we saw 3 hit batters, a double play, many stolen bases (including home), MANY walks, and MANY wild pitches. I'm also sure that is why the boys found it so fascinating - lots and lots of action and lots of screaming and cheering parents.

Perhaps they have the Verhoff baseball genes!

For some reason I suspect that there is nothing "delicate" about that balancing act.

I agree Joanna--I thought "delicate" was a hilarious word choice, too. Delicate my ass!

Talk about trying to explain something--William found Ed's copy of the Time Magazine issue after the 9/11 attacks. He insisted on looking at every single page. And he asked a LOT of questions. I wanted to yank the magazine out of his hands, but he already knows that an airplane hit the Pentagon and that is what he's most interested in. He didn't seem to notice all the pictures of the twin towers. Ugh. I tried to be as honest and simplistic as I could be. But it was really, really hard.

Matt has always said that although he loves football, coaching baseball is really more fun for him b/c there is so much going on that most people don't see. It's fun for him to teach those intricasies.

Thought about you alot this week as I've been making lists and trying to focus on what really matters to me as well as getting it all done.

I don't know how you do it all...but you seem to manage it awesome. I love that you took a night to play. I would have a hard time letting go of the "still need to dos" an enjoying myself...but it's so important for the kids!

You are awesome to fit in some fun when you are in the midst of packing and moving. Delicate balance indeed!

Cole would be happy to sit down with your boys and talk baseball. Also, there are lots of great books about baseball for little kids. "Nick Plays Baseball", "My Baseball Book", "H is for Homerun"...
