Saturday it was relatively cool (insane that mid-80s feels cool now!) so we trekked out to Saxapahaw and it was SO WORTH the drive. It was relatively uncrowded. There were bubble buckets for the kids (10 gallons of bubbles), a huge water slide, ropes hung from trees for swinging, and hay bales for climbing. Add in the best grilled pizza I've ever eaten, Maple View ice cream, the farmer's market with german johnson tomatoes!, people entertained rather than irritated by wild dancing kids, and two hours of great live music and it was a perfect evening for the whole family.

While we were there, I said to Jon when we moved here before kids, this was the kind of evening I had imagined we would have. It was truly a special night and the only thing that would have made it slightly better would have been more time to chat with Monika. Perhaps when our kids are a little older. Thank you Monika!
PS. I tried to get the kids to help me with my photography homework and it was a bust. Will I never learn?!

Wait. So the above picture is an example of BUST? Hmm...my standards are clearly different from yours. :) SO glad you had a great night out. We did an outdoor music concert last night too but the description of your event sounds amazing! our concert fell more into the "people being irritated by kids" category. Yeah for fun family nights!
Oh, what fun!!
The oppressive heat really does put a damper on things; all the fun outdoor concerts in the Austin area are just too late for our girls, although kids are very welcome.
What a great way to spend an evening. I'm glad everyone enjoyed themselves.
As far as the picture goes...what Megan said above.
Sounds amazing! If you are ever interested in a "kid-friendly" monster truck bash, come our way. (http://www.charlottemotorspeedway.com/dirt/tickets/circle_k_back_to_school_monster_truck_bash/) Hee haw.
It's great when you find a kid-friendly event, isn't it? We're also fighting horrible heat and humidity -- by our standards anyway. It's killing the summer. Even on the nice days we don't want to go out because the mosquitos will eat you alive. We do get out, though, just because it is summer.
That looks like a very fun family activity! I want to go on that slide LOL.
And please tell me exactly, what your photo homework was?!! :D
I'm so so glad you all made it out to the Sax festival! Nina is somewhat enamored with N and A and she told me after the event that she was a little bit too nervous to dance. I don't think it was girly-crush nervous, but just that new-friends nervous. It was so fun having you in my neck of the woods! And I'm glad at least one of our kids went down the giant slip n' slide.
