Also, my four year old boys are not known for their restraint around water.
After the first time Alex dove into the deep end, I mentioned to Joanna that everyone should get to experience seeing his crazily happy face flying right at them, arms spread. It is the definition of pure joy. And now you can see it for yourself:

Thanks to a post from Julie of Joy's Hope, I learned there are waterproof point and shoot digital cameras on the market. Let me repeat that. Waterproof digital point and shoot. Even better, Julie posted a link where you can buy them cheaply refurbished.
Sure, it's not perfect. There's a delay when you press the shutter so sometimes instead of pictures of flying kids, you get pictures like this:

But the underwater pictures? HELLA AWESOME. Particularly the second butt (Alex's) you can see in this picture.

Now you can see Alex swimming.

And this is me laying on the bottom of the pool as Nate swims over the top of me. Nate thought this was ridiculously fun.

So forgive me if I go a little crazy with the pool pictures the rest of the summer. I'm so glad I can capture in photos what our typical summer evening is like.

fantastic photos! Youhave two little fish on your hands!!
You are so fortunate to have a community pool like that. The closest pool to us is two towns away (although not far driving, just 10-15 minutes) but still - when that's the only pool for people of 3-4 surrounding towns to use, it gets pretty crowded. And its not that nice either :( In New England, we don't take water recreation very seriously which has been brutal with the summer we have been having - above average temps every day.
These are awesome! I think a picture that captures a perfect moment is better than a perfect picture every time! The first picture looks like there should be a superhero cape involved. So cool!
I think hubby will be googling this link right away because he has been shopping for a underwater camera for us. We are out swimming with the girls on the lake and in the pool (going for swimming lessons right now) and want to take pictures in the water! But there is no way I'm doing that with my Canon!
that is so cool - these are the most AWESOME pictures ever! I have to get me one of those cameras!
AWESOME. Pure awesomeness.
This! This is what summer is all about. What a perfect way to pass your time. It looks like you have found the perfect setting where both joys are more than happy to let you photograph them.
Now, off to check out those cameras.
Yea! I can't wait to show these to JTC!
Loooooove these. Now to go start my Christmas list.....waterproof camera. :-)
How fun! I'm so jealous that the pool is that close. We have to go to Lifetime - 10-15 minute drive each way, plus the time getting in and out of the place with a toddler.
You can also buy some plastic cases for point and shoots, but they don't work as well for shots out of the water. I got one for our most recent trip to Hawaii so I could takes some photos while snorkeling, and I was pleasantly surprised with how they turned out. I still want a waterproof P&S, but it's a good option for people who aren't ready to shell out for a full camera (it was only about $20).
Looks like everyone can have fun at the pool now!
Take that swim team! You so made the right call based on these fabulous shots!
those are AMAZING! the last few of nate reminded me of a dreamscape. so cool1
Very nice! This IS such a huge part of your life- so nice to capture it!! Fantastic!
Love these! And love your pool. Our closest community pool is 25 mins. away, and I'm SO disappointed. This looks like a lovely place to spend the summer and I'm so glad you can share it with us!
Totally freaking awesome! Love the pictures!
PS. I'm glad to see you got another camera that can take great pictures. :P
Great pics!! Now I'm off to check out that link too!
