I'm going to feel old writing this out loud

My friend Ann visited this weekend from San Francisco. Readers may remember Ann from a trip I took to San Francisco last year. Longer term readers may remember a trip Jon and I took to San Francisco two years ago. And even longer term friends and family may remember that Ann and I met the first year in college at the age of 18, and have now been friends for GULP.... 18 years.

Ann & Boys

The visit was awesome and included a spa and shopping day, a visit to The Pit for some NC pulled pork (my pants are still tight), and some time cooling off in the pool. The best part about old friends is you can just hang out, chat, and it's just as fun as any crazy activity you can plan.

Ann and I were poor college students together, waitressed to get free food. We worked at the same engineering company right out of college, struggled to make ends meet. We worked at the same software company and learned to stop being workaholics. We have traveled together to Europe and in the US. We've seen each other through moves to new cities, new jobs, new careers, heartbreaks from stupid men, finding the right men, buying houses, settling down, and having kids. I'm a strong believer that you need old friends who knew you before you were a grown up and Ann is a great old friend.

Ann & Laura

While our 20s were a BLAST, we have never been so fabulous as we are in our 30s.
Something tells me we will still be awesome in our 40s. And 50s. And 60s. And hopefully beyond! Thank you Ann for making the super long flight across the country to hang out and see my life!

I'm glad you had a great visit. You do a wonderful job of growing friendships that I have no doubt you two will be laughing it up together 18 years from now.

Love that you said "Writing Out Loud" cause I think that all the time.

Old Friends are the best. You said it perfect. Glad you had this time together! (Your boys are too cute!)

You both still look like what I remember from my 20s. :)

Yes I have had a friend whose youngest is now 15. And I knew her a year before that. It's great to be able to have friends that grow with you.

Yes, exactly. I spent my weekend with one of my closest and oldest friends and it's awesome to have people around who know you inside and out, and who love you anyway. Glad you had such a great weekend!

Awesome! If it makes you feel better, I spent the weekend with a friend I've known 17 years... and we met in grad school!

What a great visit! I have a couple of friends like this that I have known forever, and it's the best. Doesn't matter how much time goes by, its like you have never been apart when you have a chance to see one another!

Also, getting caught up from last week and I am so surprised you have Beiber fever?? Ben was going around the house the other day singing one of his songs and I cannot get over it! Glad it helped with the run though!

Cannot agree more on SYTYCD all stars. Love it, but also love that it's DVR'd and I can skip some parts of it.

but you gave me a giggle and that is so worth letting someone know :)

Thanks for making me feel old, Laura! :-)

I had a wonderful visit and it was so great to finally meet Nate and Alex. By the way, at one point I tried to explain to them how long I'd known you and they just stared at me blankly when I said "18 years". I think to them it's no different than a million. We ARE old!

Wow! a million years... old indeed. We are lucky to have met you so long ago. A reminder you have many silent readers. -Albert
