Packing packing packing

Today we leave for our second family vacation ever. We are going to the beach as the boys picked this as the way they want to celebrate their birthday Sunday.

Let me clarify. We have taken tons and tons of trips as a family, but all of those trips have involved seeing family or friends. We did take a beach trip alone two years ago, but going to the beach with two two year olds was not exactly as relaxing as we had imagined.

I have high hopes we will get some relaxation time in. I'm taking books. (Re-read of Drop City for me for book group.)

Beach books

I'm taking koozies. Last fall I learned people use beer koozies in an un-ironic manner and since telling people I had no idea they are really used, I have gotten some as gifts. I wonder why I thought they were used ironically?

Koozies

And you know I'm taking my camera so expect a photo overload post when we return! T-4 hours and counting!

Have a GREAT VACATION! Can't wait to see pictures when you get back. And I want to hear all about American Wife - I loved Prep so much that I'm afraid I'll just be disappointed by Sittnefeld's next novel.

Oh, and the koozies? Thanks for posting that Fargo one. I hold you responsible if I suddenly lapse into my Marge Gunderson impression when people start annoying me at work.

Have fun!
(Love the Koozies!)

Have a great time at the beach!

And you should know that in the South, the koozie is a rite of passage (as well as a wedding favor!).

Hope your vacation is awesome! And happy birthday to the boys. (Sunday, right?) Email me and tell me where you're going. (I'm still trying to figure out how to work in the beach!)

I'm sure the boys will have a wonderful birthday. I hope they have a blast with the straws (remember, no fruit punch on white cloth chairs).

As for relaxing. Bawhahahaha! I'm going to be chuckling over that all weekend. Relaxing, she says.

And I'm wondering, how did you keep your beer cool prior to using koozies? Or did it never last long enough to get warm?

Have fun, and happy reading. I LOVED American Wife. I hope you enjoy it, too.

I'm jealous. Not only have we never vacationed as a family, we've never vacationed as a couple (not even a honeymoon), and Lucas has never traveled with the girls.

The thing is, I love to travel! With Lucas away all the time, though, and with the income of two government jobs, it's just not doable.

Have a wonderful trip!

I'm also interested to hear your thoughts on American Wife. I read it last year and had mixed feelings - but I also loved Prep, so I think there was no way it could live up to my expectations.

I use koozies tailgating or when I'm drinking something really really really cold and don't want it to melt any :)

American Wife is fantastic! I hope you get a chance to enjoy it.

Dude, I had no idea what a koozie was until I saw the photo. I didn't know those things had a name!
