Earlier this week, it was pouring rain at swim team. Nate ran over to find me huddled under the shelter with all the other parents because he was cold (cold pool, cold rain). I picked him up in an odd way trying to avoid getting soaked and he yelled, "That hurts my p*nis and t*sticles!"
Hello swim team parents!
I've mentioned before I get drained by chaos. Having contractors in the house the last two months almost drove me insane. So you can imagine how I am feeling right now as we need to prepare to leave for a family trip to Ohio and our hot water heater started leaking. It's original to the house (20 years) so it's better to just replace it.
Which means there is a plumber here today to replace it.
And the water is shut off to the house. No laundry, dish washing, showering, toilet flushing. Let me repeat: no toilet flushing.
Have I mentioned Jon and I telecommute?

We're all about proper terminology and it's made for interesting conversation with other parents.
We're in full-on toilet training mode, which means that whomever is Nina's favorite family member of the moment needs to be prepared to make a bathroom run with her. Nina used the word vulva while my MIL was assisting her last weekend. Best surprise of the century? My MIL (an elementary school teacher) actually thanked me for not teaching my daughter "nonsense terminology."
I love that they know the proper names! Hubby and I have an amiable disagreement on what to call K-man's 'parts'. I say use the medical terminology. Hubby says that p#nis just sounds horrible and would prefer something else. Heh...
We just got a new one as well because ours leaked. It is the second time in 6 years. No fun. I hope it doesn't take long.
Sounds like a great day to work from Panera or Starbucks!
oh my gosh, that is funny (about swim team) but NOT funny about your water heater. Hope it gets replaced SOON!
OMG. That first paragraph made me laugh, laugh, laugh. You know how I am about using accurate names for things, and what you experienced was a natural "consequence" for doing so. LOVE IT!
Aggghhhhh ... hot water heaters!!! We had to replace ours recently as well and I could not believe how much it costs! The joys of home ownership!! Yours lastest about twice as long as ours did though ....
I wanted to thank you for the book recommendation ... Your two year old ... terrible or tender? LOVE IT!!!
Wow. Hang in there! I don't do well with chaos either. Just hired a new housecleaner and my stress level has lowered somewhat!
Too funny about Nate and the proper names.
Your house sounds like my house with the chaos but I'm being (or trying to be) Zen about it and just "go with the flow"
As you may have guessed, I'm not a "go with the flow" sort of gal :)
I LOVE Nate's outburst :) LOVE it.
Hope everything gets sorted out quickly!
We are also a proper name family, and we have had some very interesting conversations recently.
Plus the recent question, "when we were born, did we come out of your bottom?" (Okay, maybe bottom isn't a proper name...).
