Holiday crafting, deconstructed

For the first time, the boys got to participate in (our) Case family tradition - the smashing of the gingerbread house. And let me tell you, they were an enthusiastic demolition team. Previous years have shown the best tool is a wide heavy mallet:

HouseSmash01

KERPOW!

HouseSmash02

BA BAM!

HouseSmash03

AWWWWWWW YEAHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Housesmash04

SMASH!

HouseSmash05

THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!!

Jon and I each got a couple of good smashes on the gingerbread tree. I would highly recommend this as a way to compact your holiday crafts at the end of the season, as well as a way to release some of that pent up "too much time together as a family" energy.

Love it! I may have to find something to bash.

omg, I'm definitely stealing this idea! I usually dump ours in the trash when the kids are not around but I think they would get a lot of "joy" out of smashing it to a million pieces. (although they will still want to eat the stale candy!)

Yes, my kids enjoyed this way too much. They sat there for over half hour smashing every last piece. It was all just gingerbread dust and gumdrops. Super fun. Thanks for the new tradition.

So, this is the "reduce" part of reduce, reuse, recycle?

That first picture of Nate is really great, in a Leatherface* sort of way.

One of my favorite things about engineers is their investment in determining the best tool with which to destroy a gingerbread house.

*Did I ever tell you about the time I had red wine with the dude that played Leatherface?

Frickin' hysterical. I should have done this to all 16 of the gingerbread houses I made! What an awesome tradition. IF (and that's a huge if) we ever make gingerbread houses again, we're definitely doing this. Thanks for the laugh! (And the awesome pictures.)

Oh yeah--and I'm also LMAO at Joanna's comment. You guys are too much!

Smashing of the gingerbread house? Why haven't I heard of this before? I bet it was more fun then the actual building of the gingerbread house... and, good thing noone got hurt! (well, except the gingerbread house). hahaha.

Michael would love that! Looks like the boys had a great time.

There's only one thing to say. Wow!

We actually have yet to make our gingerbread houses. This year, instead of one big one, I'll make a bunch of mini ones for kids to decorate at our cookie-decorating party in January.

I did make 16 mini-houses for a cookie competition, though. I'll post pictures eventually. :)

Ok, this is hysterical! I haven't heard of this "time honored tradition" but I love it! Great pics and great commentary!

Nice idea, but at our house it would never happen because Ada insists on eating the house she made. We got her to wait a full day after she and my mom made it before she broke it down with her teeth.

ps - thanks for your input :)I asked them today who wanted their very own room? They each said their brothers name. Awesome

Well, I was just wondering what to do with mine. Now this is the perfect solution :)

This reminds me of the scene of smashing the fax in Office Space. I love it! We are totally stealing this idea!

That is so awesome! I am TOTALLY stealing this idea next year. Although, I don't know if my girls will be into it like your boys were!
