1. You will seriously regret your plan to hit the tanning booth for your November Florida wedding. While it might not be *the* reason you eventually end up with skin cancer, during the moments when you were waiting for your second biopsy, you will think about how dumb it was for a THIRTY year old to hit a tanning salon when you KNOW it causes cancer and you have pale skin. You will also think of all the times you got sunburned or went outside with no sunscreen. But mostly, you will think about the tanning bed.
Sure the photos look fantastic. You will regret it. Use a tanning cream instead.
Or do what you will do five years in the future, which is to go to Origins, get a facial and makeover, and buy all new makeup that compliments your pale skin. (Thanks Irene for the gift card.)
2. You will think your wedding dress is the most expensive thing you will ever buy. You will be proven wrong again and again in your future when you write monthly checks to day care.
3. Be comfortable in your skin. After kids, you will never have this body again. You won't mind your new body because it will be strong enough to carry two beautiful children, run a half marathon, and keep up with your kids. But enjoy your body this day, because you will never look like this in a bikini again and with the whole skin cancer thing, a beach vacation lying in the sun will not be at the top of your list of things to do in your future.
(St Lucia honeymoon was amazing.)

I would not want to know the rest of the details. I loved that on our wedding day, there was an entire world of unknown possibility waiting for me and Jon.

The wedding dress vs. daycare is soooooo true! Now granted I bought a sample dress but it still only cost one month's daycare fee! Crazy!
We went to St. Lucia for our honeymoon, too. Gorgeous, wasn't it?!
ah, hindsight. it truly is 20/20, isn't it!? and St. Lucia looks like an absolutely beautiful place to visit!
I did the tanning bed thing for my wedding too (had to look good in a white dress back then!) and I think about that now too. Will it come back to haunt me? It could.
We did St. Lucia for an anniversary trip and it was the best!!! Loved it.
We all did stupid stuff when we were younger. I'm sorry that it came back to bite you though. You still have a great body, bikini or not! It is pretty amazing when you think about it, what a woman's body can do--both with bearing children and raising them (carrying them/chasing them, etc).
I love the part about your wedding day holding a whole world of possibility in front of you--so very true!
Look at you, Miss Thing- such a hottie! And St. Lucia, wow- that photo is beautiful squared :)
I could kick myself for loads of things I did 5, 3, 1 year ago, yesterday... I'd like to think I'm getting wiser with age, but the half pint of Ben and Jerry's I single handedly put away last night (while allegedly on a diet) might beg to differ.
Oh yeah, not knowing how expensive daycare will be is so true! Now that Mar is a stay at home dad, I cringe when I think about how much Nina's daycare in Chicago's Buena Park neighborhood cost us. It was worth every penny, BUT STILL.
Your comments about tanning booths hit a little too close to home...I hate admitting that I managed one of those places when I was at university.
Isn't perspective great!
Great post! Day care vs wedding day dress - awesome comparison! And I totally hear ya on the 'enjoy the skin you are in' thing. I obsessed about my imperfections...WHY? Sounds like a great five years.
