Family Movie Night!

Jon is impossible to shop for because he honestly doesn't want things. While I do love this about him, it also makes gift giving very difficult. This Father's Day, I brainstormed a list of five possible gifts and ran them past him. He declined four of the five but he did want a tv for our bedroom. This was a perfect Father's Day gift because it is also a gift for me!

It gave us the perfect opportunity to institute Family Movie Night. All week, I hyped up that Saturday was going to be Movie Night where we would all wear pajamas, pile into our bed, and watch a movie together. The boys were very excited, particularly once they learned they could eat popcorn in the bedroom.

We decided to watch Ratatouille since we had not seen it before. Nate was happy as a clam as he continually repeated, "I love movie night!" with the biggest smile on his face. Alex was much more into cuddling, often fighting with Nate to cuddle with me.

The only rough patch we hit during the movie was a scene where the rat loses his family in the sewers. Alex broke into hysterics, sobbing "He lost his family!" It gave us some good insight into how Alex's mind works that this was so scary to him. He was truly upset about it until the rat found his family. About 75 minutes into the movie, the boys lost interest and they had finished an entire bag of popcorn. We fast forwarded to the end and cheered.

Before you have kids, you have all these ideas about the fun things you will do with them. It seems so simple to say we watched (most of) a movie together, but it felt like such a huge milestone in our life with the boys. I'm probably the lamest 35 year old on the planet to say I can't wait to watch Bee Movie on Saturday night, but I'm content to be lame if it means I get to be mom to these two little boys.

You are a nicer mom that I. There will be no popcorn in my bed! It's way too messy.

We have done some movie days with Michael. However, his desire to watch the movie 9 million times in a row means that I'm not as impressed with the process as I used to be. I'm seriously considering taking him to see the new ice age movie in the theater. I'm sure that will be an interesting bog post.

We haven't attempted a full length movie yet. But it does sound fun! Did they like Ratatouille? I wasn't a fan but then again, I'm not 3. THe bee movie, on the other hand sounds fun! nice that you have these traditions started!

I don't think that sounds lame at all...it sounds like a ton of fun. My kids went through a Bee Movie phase. They loved it and watched it numerous times (as is their tendency when they find movies they like). And I must admit that I liked it as well...at least the first 5 times that I saw it!

Mitchell and I have agreed that we will only have one TV in our house, but I am soooo looking forward to piling into bed on a Saturday or Sunday morning to read the paper or tickle some ribs. Sounds like heaven!

I think that sounds awesome! I was thinking about introducing the idea of a movie to my kids, but I don't think they can sit still long enough. We'll see...

We LOVE movie night around here. We get our popcorn, treats, and cuddle on the couch. We took the babies to their first movie at the theater yesterday. It was SO MUCH FUN!

Took Analese to see UP. She really does not like any intensity in her movies. She still likes Dora and Strawberry Shortcake - totally non-intense movies. Like Alex, I'm sure that scene in the movie would have been scary for her. So I guess she needs to mature a little more before we can enjoy all the neat Pixar movies together.

Count me in with the lame crowd because we instituted movie night on Fridays last Fall and it is something we all look forward to - PJs, popcorn and lots and lots of snuggle time. In fact I was just thinking the other day that I need to write a blog post about it. Haha! Enjoy Bee Movie, it's super cute!
