Before twins: "I need to see the doctor right now for this pressing issue!"
After twins: "No bleeding, no fever, not unconscious, I can see the doctor whenever."
Before twins: "This cover up is so small."
After twins: "I get a cover up?"
Before twins: "Let me find my insurance card."
After twins: "My personal insurance contact responsible for our account is xxx. They are on our Christmas card list. I speak to them more than I speak to my relatives."
Before twins: "I hope I don't have to take off my underwear."
After twin: "I can't believe I get to keep my underwear on. My bra too? Score!"
Before twins: "Why are there always so many people in the room?"
After twins: "Two people see me undressed? That's it. Not two TEAMS of people?"
Before twins: "Where is the doctor? I hate waiting for appoinments."
After twins: "I hope the doctor is running behind. I can't wait to catch up on all the trashy gossip magazines in peace."
All joking aside, can I tell you again to PLEASE put sunscreen on your kids? And yourself? This morning the dermatologist had some very interesting information for me about skin cancer in children right after he told me I need to come back to have four moles biopsied. Three PLUS the one I thought was suspicious. The good news is they don't appear bad enough to need immediate biopsy so I go back in a few weeks, so I am truly not worried.
But at least now I have justification for being a sunscreen nutjob all the time.

"Only two people get to see me naked?" I swear, there was a doctor party in the delivery room. I think they were playing quarters on the contraction monitor printer.
As far as sunscreen goes. My very fair skinned sister goes in twice a year for mole removals. She now refers to her appointments as "slice and dice". We use a lot of sunscreen in my family.
Very funny and good post! I did this between kids (I think I was still nursing James, maybe), and I'm so glad about just how thorough (ahem) the search was. I had 5 biopsied and 2 removed.
Next time, I will have a plastic surgeon do any necessary removals. These scars are terrible!
I meant to say that I was so glad someone WARNED me about the thorough exam.
I really hope your biopsies (sp?) come back ok. I am sunblock crazy on my kids, on me not so much. I really need to do better - especially with our HOT sun.
So true! The entire world has seen my breasts. And damn, they are not nearly as perky as pre-babies.
I am insistent about sunscreen for the kids before going outside. I like that you start your day with that and once my kids are the running around types we will do that too.
Two comments: First, it was one of your posts that made me realize I need to plan to put sunscreen on my kids every day. That had never occurred to me that it would be part of my daily ritual before that.
Second, this is exactly why I glared at my husband when he complained about his life insurance physical when I was 8 months pregnant. He got to keep his pants on and the doctor came to our house!
Te, he. I have lost all shame. I was going bra shopping (if my dad and MIL didn't read my blog, that would be a post this week!) and she was very discreetly asking me what I currently wear, and I just ripped off my shirt. Pre-twins I would have had shame.
Scary about the moles. I really need to see a dermatologist. I am really crazy about sunblock. I make them wear it even on cloudy days and my husband thinks I'm nuts. Plus they put it on 3X a day.
May the biopsies be nothing more than an annoying inconvenience.
Yes on sunblock. Even in the winter, even when it's cloudy, the UV is still there.
Now if I could only remember the stuff for myself ...
I made an appointment for my husband this week after hounding him for a couple of years about getting his skin checked. He is not thrilled but eh?! I have a gyno appt next month and you don't hear me complaining! I am like you though I look forward to the gossip mags b/c I never actually buy them I just read them for free when waiting for doctors or in the grocery line. I also get to have a babysitter and some time on my own. OH the glamour!!!!
I hope all your biopsies come out well!
BTW thanks again for the sleep advice or more importantly compassion that you gave me!
Hearing you talk about life after kids (let alone 2!) I feel so completely ignorant and clueless - I only hope I will have the chance to be shocked into the reality of life after kids. As you for you, I'm so glad and impressed you have a sense of humor about it all!
Any luck finding a suncreen that is not greasy, smelly or stings the eyes? I think I have tried nearly every shelf brand and hate them all. Some are better than others, but all are so bad that I rarely use one unless we are really going to be outside for a long time. Albert's even worse than I am because he's darker skinned.
This is so true. I think there were about 75 people in the delivery room when I had my twins. I might as well walk down the street naked!
My pediatrician said something interesting when she was talking to my daughter at her last visit. She said "the sun we have now is different from the sun we had when your mom and I were kids. Less ozone means more damage." I never thought of it that way before. I used to lay out in the sun with the baby oil slathered on.
I am trying not to laugh out loud as my students are taking exams.
Love, love, love the comments and totally commensurate!
In all seriousness I think you made me realize that I probably should go get checked. I never have and since I have been burned badly (including a trip in the 7th grade to a water park all day with NO sunscreen resulting in 2nd degree burns). I need to be an adult on this one. Let me know when your appointment is ok?
Between you and Amber stay on me to get checked before summer is out-
Oooh, thank you for the reminder.
