Birthday party picture overload

Nate successfully went diaper-free all night. Woo hoo!

But he woke up with a mystery fever.

And Alex's potty training is going like every other potty training attempt we've had with him - horribly. Again we've lost count of the number of times he's peed on the floor. Again we're most likely heading back to diapers.

And it looks like it is about to storm here.

This seems like a perfect time to share the pictures Wendy Willis took at the boys' birthday party last weekend!

I enlisted Jon's help to make six kid-sized tables while I made signs for each table out of foam and foam letters.

I set up each table in our garage ahead of time so I could make sure I had enough supplies and didn't forget anything. I figured the painting table would be the most popular.

I was definitely right about the painting. Every time I looked over, Alex was doing something else with the paint - pouring it, painting his hands, mixing colors together. Sometimes he actually painted too.
I also put colored sand along with regular sand in our sand table. It was also a hit but next time, I would buy a lot more bags of colored sand.

And obviously the worms and dirt cupcakes were a huge hit as well. I've decided mini cupcakes are my all-time favorite because the frosting to cupcake ratio is so high.

Before the guests arrived, we had Wendy take some family and individual photos. Nate can be such a ham for strangers sometimes!

And if anyone wants to know how we get the boys to cooperate with photos, here's the secret: candy. This day it was gummy worms leftover from the cupcakes.

Overall it was a great day, made greater by letting someone else be behind the camera.

Instead of wishing I could have been a fly on the wall, I wish I could have been at the party - sounds GREAT! They'll have such great memories because of your hard work - way to go MOM!
It's storming here too, all weekend, party pooper - but it's great for a pregnant woman who's tired all the time.

That party sounds more and more fun each time I read about it. I wonder if I can have one of those for my 28th birthday party. And the pictures of your family are excellent!

The pictures are great! What a wonderful party.

Sorry about the fever.

I'm really jealous of the diaper-training news. Mine will be going to college in diapers, I'm certain.

Hope you aren't TOO stir crazy with the storming/fever/potty training long weekend!

That was such a great idea - hiring a photographer. I love the gummy worm squishing the nose. Priceless!

There is no such thing as picture overload when it comes to birthday parties. Thanks for sharing. As for the potty training... I'm with Sadia... I'm pretty sure I'll have at least one in diapers when they head to college!

Love the picture of the four of you. Great idea for a birthday party. I will have to remember this for my girls when they are a little older. Any ideas for a first birthday party?

That looks like such a fun party. And so smart to hire a photographer - it's stressful trying to get pictures and actually be a part of things, too. Love the pictures - priceless!

The pictures are great! I have a hard time taking a decent photo of my son because every time he sees the camera, he looks away. And you're right, the solution is candy!

Looks like the kids really had fun. Playtime really excites them.

Fantastic pictures! Makes me want to kick myself even more for not doing that for our party. Next year, definitely. You did an amazing job on the whole affair!

Looks great! And the tans you all have! So lovely! Such a great party- it looks like you had a blast! And despite the age and all of the growing up they are doing, I still see a *little* bit of little boy still left in both of your kiddos. Thank goodness for that! Yahoo for pee free nights!
