Nate can write all his letters, spell a few words, and write a few words. He will often say all the letters of a word out and ask what it means. This weekend we had to bust out the sunscreen [Side question: Which do I hate more? Bundling up twins in winter or putting sunscreen on twins?] and Nate spelled out K-I-D-S from the sunscreen bottle. I told him it spelled "kids" because it was sunscreen for kids. Jon was upstairs when all of this happened.
I let it sit there for a little bit in Jon's brain. Full of anticipation, I let it swirl around in his head and watched his excitement rise.
Right when Jon was about to yell, "NATE CAN READ!!!" I told him the truth. I have a feeling I'm going to get paid back for that one.

Batman does this all the time too, it's hilarious. He picked up my cell phone the other day and said "S-A-M-S-U-N-G" then he ran his finger under it and said, "Mommy's phone." LOL.
I'm dreading when he learns how to spell and read for real. Someday he's going to realize that the Professor and I spell out S-E-X in front of him all the time!
LOL! I'm constantly trying to set my mom up for stuff like that. When planned, it normally falls through: (
We can't spell z-o-o anymore though because Michael knows what it spells. I have to be pretty creative about talking about it without indicating what it is.
Yes, you're days of spelling are drawing to a close. Z-O-O is the first thing my boys learned to spell, too. Now they make guesses all the time what we're spelling, and sometimes get it right.
Love the joke you played :)
I have a feeling you are right and you know what they say about pay backs! Very funny though!
We have had similar moments when Bill thinks Lana is a genius and I have to fess up that we went through the whole thing earlier. Its still impressive though!!
We are most often spelling our swear words b/c if we slip and say them out loud Lana will say, "DON"T SAY THAT!!"
That's great!
Melly always reads her letters right to left. "Mama, what's TEGRAT right there?" "Target".
