Sweet sweet summer

The height of summer is winding down here in North Carolina. The last few mornings have been cool, bringing dew to the grass and some much-needed respite from the heat. The sun has started to set earlier and rise later. There is a subtle smell in the air indicating fall is on its way.

This year, we were able to truly enjoy summer for what it is - hours at the pool, popscicles, barbeques, sangria, mornings at the park, and as much time outside as possible. We had one of those summer weekends that I dreamt of as an expecting parent - incredible amounts of outdoor time, fun activities, cooperation from the kids, and quality time with my sweetie after the boys went to bed. This weekend, it was almost as if the boys could feel summer slowly slipping away and they knew they needed to appreciate it as well.

I am always stunned by these weekends where my heart feels so much yet words are too simple to describe what those two days meant to me. I will keep my words simple. My version of heaven will be eating nutty buddies at the pool with my three boys. I can't imagine a sweeter life than this.

It sounds like a dream... the perfect summer weekend with your boys. I hope there are thousands and millions more to come!

Beautiful post. It brought tears to my eyes (although that could be due to lack of sleeps thanks to my sweet boys who have fevers) :) Seriously though, it was beautifully written!

I know what you mean. We had one of those weekends too, and I'm hoping to blog about it in the next few days as well. It's amazing how a simple change in the light and a cool breeze can make so much difference.

I totally hear you. Sometimes those moments are so magical and words cannot do it a bit of justice.
