Neglecting to mention Alex's talking

Remember those months when I went on and on about how worried I was about Alex never developing language? Uh yeah, Alex started speaking in complete sentences a few weeks (maybe a month?) ago and I completely forgot to write about it. I'm not sure if it happened during that rough week where I was on my own and the boys were conspiring against me. I'm not sure if it was just gradual and we couldn't draw a stake in the sand.

In any event, Alex is now a fountain of words and sentences. He doesn't spew like Nate, but he goes on kicks where he feels he has to talk about something. It is joy to my ears after all these months of worry. He doesn't have quite the vocabulary Nate does, but I feel more patient listening to him because when he speaks, it is important.

The only item missing from the baby book was the date they "learned to count." Nate has been counting for awhile, but Alex's counting was always this - One, Two, Eight, Eleven, Eight, Eleven, Eight, Eleven. We never know if he will end on eight or eleven, but there are always eight or eleven of something. This morning, he counted to eight perfectly. Another worry gone, at least until I decide to worry about it again. And I can really truly finish the baby book.

What is it with eleven? Maya counts to ten, then eleven thirteen, eleven thirteen, eleven thirteen, eleven! So cute. I love it when they start really talking, I think it may be in my top five of favorites.

This is not counting, but I had to share. When my neice started first grade, I was trying to stress to her that math is fun. I was horrible in math, and I wanted her to be excited about it and maybe she would be better at it. This was our conversation at one point...

Me: Pretend like you have 1 doll in your left hand and 1 doll in your right hand. How many dolls do you have?

Her: (Silence, staring blankly.)

Me: What's 1 and 1?

Her: Eleven?

I love it!

Sounds like Alex is doing great!

I just love to hear little tiny voices speaking. It's one of the sweetest sounds in the world.

How does Nate feel about Alex's talking?

We had the same worries with Gavin. Up to the age of two, he didn't even mutter a single 'mama' he was great with sign language, but never spoke. Then soon after his 2nd birthday he suddenly just started talking. And in full sentences. It's as if all that time, he was just taking it all in until he finally had something to say. Way to go Alex!!!
