One year later, Labor Day 2006, we were living in our dream home and had 3 month old twin boys. A lot can change in a year.

This Labor Day, my best friend from college, Mike, is getting married. We have known each other for 16 years. In that time, we've moved to many cities, had our hearts broken many times, had family ups and downs, and faced medical issues.
He's become Dr. Vogel and I've become Mommy. We're no longer the 18 year olds who sat on the bridge of Millikan Pond all night discussing our lives and how happy we were to find each other as friends. We're no longer the 22 year olds hugging good-bye at graduation, unsure what our lives would hold for us. We've found our careers and our life partners, and we still have each other.
Since I moved away from home to attend Caltech, I've never been near family. Along the way, I've found friends who became my family. I've found the people who accept my flaws, listen to my crazy ideas, and make me feel grounded. I've always needed that network. This blog, a crazy idea I thought would last a couple of months, has helped me create part of that community as a new mother.
This weekend, my mom is graciously coming here to watch the boys so we can attend Mike's wedding. And as part of our trip, Jon and I are going to meet two of my blogfriends along the way - Megan and Joanna. This trip has so many levels of meaning for me. Seeing an old friend on the happiest day of his life, spending time alone with my sweetie, meeting my virtual friends who enrich my life. I am a lucky, lucky woman.

I am so glad things worked out and you get to go. I hope you have a wonderful time. If you ever come to So Cal - we have a date at In N Out okay?
BTW-that picture of Jon with the twins has to be one of my all time favs and you post a lot of cute pics.
I read on London's blog that you are actually going to a 90210 party? How freaking cool is that? I am so excited about it and yes, I too was old enough (in the later seasons) to drink wine coolers while watching that and Melrose Place. We actually invented a drinking game out of those shows. LOL!
That's so cool that you get to meet some of your "blogfriends" I'm jealous since I don't have any real friends!
Why am I the only one who hasn't got a clue about this whole 90210 thing??
SO FUN! I am so excited for you. And since I'm in So Cal too - can I get in on the In N Out date with JenFen?? If not, we are meeting up in Chi-town in the future for sure!
LOVE that picture of Jon and the boys. Can't believe how huge your life changed in just one year. Crazy!!
Blessings on your trip and Best Wishes to Grandma home with her little men!!
I can't wait to met you on Monday!
Oh, and these sweet and thoughtful posts of your keep bringing tears to my eyes, sniff. Keep it up!
yeah! How excited am I? It is going to be fun! The pic of your sons with jon is awesome! I am so glad to have met you in the blogosphere!
What a full circle post. That's great that you get to meet new friends and see old ones. Have a great time!
What great memories you have associated with Labor Day. Hope this one is as memorable as the rest! Enjoy the wedding.
wishing you a wonderful and safe trip chica. How awesome to be able to be with lifelong friends as well as new ones in the same weekend. Looking foward to teasing my bangs and putting on my rolled jeans shorts to laugh at brenda and kelly when you get home :-)
we got the heck out of chi-town 5 months before you guys did. so funny that austin was no. 2 on your list! there are lots of things i miss about the city - rolling out of bed and walking half a block to get a great bagel and cream cheese, late night sushi, hearing the roar of the crowd when the cubs hit a home run - but it amazes me on a daily basis how much austin is "home." can you even imagine raising twins in the city? the process of doing laundry alone would have killed me!
have a fabulous trip! and congrats on three years.
