Happy birthday Alex! Happy birthday Nate!

My sweet little Alex, since the day you were born you have been full of love.

When you were a teeny tiny baby, you loved being held by anyone. Those patient, kind eyes (like your dad's) were hiding a secret that you would share in your first toddler year - those eyes were watching and learning. Once you started crawling and walking, your personality exploded. You were on the move to explore and learn. You wanted to be a big kid from the day you took your first step.

You had us worried most of the year about your speech. In my heart, I knew I should not worry because you are so much like your father. You don't say much, but the things you say are important. You don't often ask for hugs, but when you do, you hug with your whole being. You take forever to eat. You have a fierce sweet tooth. Your hair does not fare well after a night sleeping. All these describe both you and your dad. Remember that when you're a teenager and he's teaching you to drive.

The first time you laughed, it was at Nate. Today still, no one makes you laugh harder than Nate. When you laugh together, it is pure joy. While I'd love to be your everything, the sound of you two laughing together fills my heart.

My firstborn, baby A, Alex. For your first trip around the sun, I did what I could to survive. For your second trip around the sun, I became the mom I always wanted to be. I promise to keep trying to be the best mom I can if you promise to ask me every night for "more big hug."

My sweet little Nate, since the day you were born you have been full of fire.

When you were a teeny tiny baby, you cried and cried. You let us know what you did and did not like. Once you started crawling and walking, your personality exploded. The crying stopped when you could do whatever you needed to make yourself happy. The crying was hiding a secret you would share in your first toddler year - you are fiercely independent. You want to do things your way.

All that crying turned into words. You are a fountain of words, spouting off new phrases and sentences every day. Your father would say this makes you like me. You talk a lot. You laugh a lot. You smile a lot. You get very angry when things do not go your way. You eat fast and don't chew food enough. You have a fierce sweeth tooth. All these describe both you and me. Remember that when you're a teenager and I'm secretly teaching you how to really drive behind your dad's back.

For the longest time, you did not want anything to do with Alex. In the last few months, you realized Alex is actually pretty cool. You let him wake you up in the morning and in return, he lets you boss him around. The sound of you talking to each other fills my heart with pride and love.

My youngest, baby B, Nate. For your first trip around the sun, I did what I could to survive. For your second trip around the sun, I became the mom I always wanted to be. I promise to keep trying to be the best mom I can if you promise to keep running to me yelling, "Mommy!"

My sweet little Alex and my sweet little Nate, before you came into my life, I was a happy person. When your dad and I set off on this journey to parenthood, we had no idea the two of you would complete our family. Every experience, every day, and every moment have been better since you entered our life. I hope every year together is as good as this year.

Happy birthday Alex. Happy birthday Nate.

Love,
Mom

HAPPIEST 2nd BIRTHDAY NATE! HAPPIEST 2nd BIRTHDAY ALEX!! You are two very special two year olds. May this next year be better than the last. I wish that you two continue to grow in your friendship with each other - and that this 3rd year of life (or lives, I guess I should say!) continues to get easier and easier on your Mommy and Daddy. When you grow up, remember to thank them for all the love, thought, and hard work they put into being your parents. Always be your best you and you will not fail. Lots of Birthday Love and Hugs are sent your way today!!

Beautiful post Laura!
