7 more things about me

Within a week, I got tagged by both Leslie and London to do the same meme, so it is time to reveal 7 more random things about me. Long-time readers (family, people I blackmail) may remember the first time I did this meme here.

1. I lived in San Francisco for four years in my 20s and made it out with no tattoos. I had someone design my perfect tattoo - a woman worshiping the sun - but could never decide on a location. Now I have a location - I am going to get a tattoo to cover my c-section scar. It is huge and red and ugly. I want to turn the scar into something beautiful that reflects the contribution of my body to the creation of Nate and Alex. More to come on this in the future. I am still thinking about design and when to do it.

2. I'm not normally as sappy as #1 suggests, but being a mom has made me sappy in crazy ways.
3. Jon and I make a ridiculous looking couple when we stand next to each other. He is 6'4" and lean and I am 5'4" and curvy. My head comes up to his armpit. This is why you rarely see pictures of us standing together - he looks freakishly tall and I look freakishly short.

4. I wore 6" platform flip flops on our wedding day solely so we would look like normal people in pictures.

I looked like a complete idiot at our dance lessons in these shoes but the pictures turned out amazing. Here's what we really look like:

5. I'm going to be 34 next Saturday so this is my last year to run races in the 30-34 age category. I also think I'm turning 32 because the last two birthdays have been kind of a blur. When I'm out running, I don't feel 34, so I think that contributes to my confusion.

6. Some years I really hate it that Jon's birthday is the day before mine because the time I COULD be spending getting excited about my birthday is spent celebrating his birthday. However, it's also really cool we started this tradition of taking a birthday trip because neither of us is really into material possessions. This will be the 9th birthday we spend together, and we've only missed two birthday trips - the first because we only knew each other 3 weeks and last year when we had 10 month old twins. How crazy is it that after only 3 weeks of knowing each other, we celebrated our birthdays together? How did I not recognize this as a sign?!?!

7. Five years ago, Kaylyn came and stayed at our place in Chicago with her 4 year old twin girls. Jon and I could not stop raving about how awesome it would be to have twins. We ran through the whole list of benefits and literally could not stop talking about wanting twins one day. It was the first time I got really excited about being a mom. I looked like a twin mom even then!

I now tag BB, Beth, Bridget, Erin, Cathy, Lindsay, Megan and anyone else who wants to play along.

In other news:

* We took the boys to the dentist for the first time last week and I forgot to write about it. Maybe because I was scarred by the double screaming and the news that Alex's underbite can only be corrected by surgery where they break his jaw?!?!?!

* My sister Jamie arrives with her three kids this afternoon. Please think good traveling karma thoughts for her as she travels SOLO with a 10 year old, 4 year old, and 6 month old. Then my mom and brother get here tomorrow. Not sure how much blogging there will be!

Those were really great! I love the flip-flops you wore at your wedding! I have the opposite problem as you guys do. DH is only about 3 inches taller than me so I had to wear a very low heel, and have my dress hemmed a ton!

Hi, Laura ...

I knew Goddess in Progress during college and found your blog through hers. I just wanted to let you know that I've enjoyed reading about you and your family; you're a great writer. I don't have kids yet, so there's a lot we don't have in common, but I'm a lifelong Chicagoan who LOVES this area, and my husband and I also have birthdays that are one day apart. (He's a year and a day older than me.) Anyway, thanks for helping me waste time on the Internet! :)

Fun to read! My husband and I are also a foot different in height, though we are each shorter than each of you. Love the flip flops!

Scary about the jaw! Tell us more when you have a chance.

I enjoyed reading your seven things. I'll have to post my seven now. Mine won't be as interesting or fun.

I LOVE the flip flops.

We're 20 cm different (what's that?) in height.

Could you tell me where you got those flip flops? I need at least 4" to 5" ones and I can't find any thick enough!
